CNY 2007 Petronas Advertisement

This is a Chinese New Year advertisement in Malaysia by Petronas. This advertisement, is very touching in a sense that reflecting the actual phenomenon where most of the younger people in urban area move to the city area for job. This cause the older generation to stay or leave behind the urban region.

The smaller town or village become more and more quiet, most of the residents are just the older generation or the wife with their children. All the younger guys have move to the big city or travel aboard to earn big money. Life in the urban region become quiet and less interesting as before.

All the old folks, in the advertisement, need to help each others in their daily life while their sons may working in another region. And at the end of the advertisement, it say that we need to go back to celebrate this festive season with their family.

Chinese New Year is like Thanksgiving in US. All the people will travel back to home and celebrate the holiday with their family. It is nice to have all the family to gather and celebrate the Chinese new year. And it is the time for us to meet back our old school mate or friends since all of us are busy earning money for living.

Courage that Touched the world

She falls but she keep on going. This is amazing. I was stunned and touched by her courage to continue.

They continue after Zhang Dan nasty fall. Every one in the podium were touched by her courage to continue. This is the spirit of sport in Olympics.

Below is quoted from the website.

Figure Skating: The courage of a 20-year-old grips Games
Feb 14 2006
By Jon Bramley

TURIN, Feb 14 (Reuters) - Zhang Dan is only 20 and probably knows nothing of the great acts of courage and defiance which have graced the Olympics Games over the past 110 years.

But on Monday night she wrote her own piece of Games history which will never be forgotten by the thousands who witnessed it in the ice rink or the many millions who watched on television.

The tiny, elfin-faced ice dancer had an outside chance of a gold when she and partner Zhang Hao took to the ice to round off a mesmerising night in the pairs event.

Within a few seconds of their routine their hopes were dashed. Zhang was thrown high into the air and span in a blur four times in an attempt at the rarely witnessed quadruple Salchow.

To gasps all around a packed Palavela, Zhang misjudged her landing and hit the ice with a sickening thud. Her legs crumpled beneath her like a new-born fawn and, all dignity lost, she slithered into a crash barrier on her backside.

For a second or two, she remained there, a broken figure before gingerly regaining her feet and attempting to continue the routine. It was clear within a few further seconds she could do no such thing.

Her background music stopped and the fixed smile of the skater was replaced by a grimace of pain. After a few more moments she skated stiffly towards her coach.

That appeared to be the end of it but Zhang, as we were all to discover, has a backbone of pure tungsten steel.

After a couple more minutes she started slowly circling the ice again before indicating she was ready to carry on.

The crowd, finally catching on to this remarkable feat of sporting bravery, broke into instantaneous applause and then watched in silent entrancement as Zhang returned to this sporting high wire balancing act.

HIGH-RISK

Only she will know how she got through the next five or six minutes but by the end of it, Zhang and her partner had completed the rest of their routine, involving several more high-risk spins without so much as a blade out of place.

Their reward at the end was deafening cheering -- louder than for the gold-medal Russian pair who had preceeded them -- and a standing ovation from the entire arena.

Zhang received her marks with a huge bandage on her thigh and an ice pack on her knee. Extraordinarily, the Chinese had bounced back from this early-routine crash to earn enough points for the silver.

At a news conference, Zhang gave a good impression of a young woman who did not understand what the fuss was about.

She described her fall as "probably a good experience for my future career" but spoke almost nothing of the courage she had summoned to carry on after such a tumble.

In fact, nothing she will do in the sport will be remembered in the same way even if she wins at the next three Games.

Pietri Dorando, the little marathon runner from Italy, was a first class runner who repeatedly won the leading races of his day but is remembered today as the man who was helped over the line in the London Games of 1908 after collapsing completely spent within metres of the finishing line.

His aides succeeded only in ensuring his disqualification but they also confirmed his place indelibly in sporting history while the winner of that race has long since been forgotten.

Most would be hard pressed to name another sportsman or woman who even took part in those Games but Dorando's memory is revered in athletics to this day.

You can fast forward nearly 90 years from Dorando to Kerri Strug, the U.S. gymnast.

She also had a glittering career but it was only her courage in pulling off a gold medal-winning vault for the home team at the Atlanta Games while her badly sprained ankle was heavily strapped that confirms her place in sporting history.

That was only 10 years ago but today papers and Websites still refer to those few seconds of almost foolhardy bravery as the defining moment of the 1996 Atlanta Games.

We may just have seen the defining moment of the 20th Winter Olympics in Turin's Palavela ice rink on Monday night.

"Mat Rempit" culture

What is Mat Rempit culture? This is what I quoted from the Wikipedia.

A Mat Rempit is a Malaysian term for 'an individual who participates in illegal street racing', usually involving underbone motorcycles (Kapcai) or scooters. Minah Rempit can refer to either the female counterpart, or a female companion of a Mat Rempit. Not all Mat Rempits involve in street racing, some of them just ride their motorcycle's dangerously on public roads. Mat Rempits usually travel in groups and race in bustling city centres on weekend nights. As of recently, Mat Rempits have been linked to gangsterism, gang robbing, fighting, vandalism, thefts and bullying. Most motorcycles used by the Mat Rempits do not meet standard specifications, or have been modified extensively. Additionally, some Mat Rempit do not have valid licenses, do not pay road taxes, and ride stolen motorcycles. More and more housing estates were turned into racing tracks. It is estimated that there are about 200,000 Mat Rempits in Malaysia. The terms of Mat Rempit also used in Singapore and Indonesia for the same reason.

Why they want to do such dangerous act? Fun, or want to have something that can pump up their adrenaline? I have no idea.

Citizen Dog

I watched this movie, called "Citizen Dog" in Channel Kinara, our nation satellite TV station. This is a Thai show movie. I love to swatch this movie, not due to the story, but due to the colour and art design of this movie. The colour they used in this movie is awesome.

Mah Nakorn (English title: Citizen Dog) is a 2004 Thai romance film, directed by Wisit Sasanatieng and based on a story by Wisit's wife, Koynuch (Siriphan Techajindawong), which was illustrated by him. It is a colorfully surrealistic story set in contemporary Bangkok, where a boy (Pod) without a goal in life falls in love with a girl (Jin) who lives for her dreams. The movie is frequently compared with the French movie Amélie. One of the main themes of the movie is that people will only find something from the moment when they stopped looking for it.

I love the colour they used in the movie. It is very colourful, and the colour selection, either for actors/actress or the background, are very impressive and matching.

Magic ??

Another nice song

This song, I sang it with my friend in recent Redbox. Seems like we need to practice more. This song is nice, but no easy to sing. I believe she and I will finally sing it out proudly.

This one found in the youtube, seems like a HK high school talent contest. Both of them really sing very well for this song.

Finally find this song...

Like this song. It very similar to the cold play "Scientist". Finally find it.

Another good song to listen.

I am not HAPPY ...

Today I suddenly feel not happy. I feel very down. The coming CNY seems hard to cheer me up. I feel very unhappy. Very very unhappy. I know the reason why I feel unhappy, feel tremendously unhappy.

Working is not the factor, the work just give me stress, but it can't make me have this terrible feeling. Feel like want to hug someone to express out my unhappiness. This is another hard night to go. I really cannot withstand the situation now. I feel so down and disappointed, and feel that the future has no hope. There sure have hope in the future, just that now I blind myself to see for any light in the future.

No matter how hard I try, how hard I distract myself of thinking something negative, I still can't hold back myself to think something very negative. Mentally I was collapsed, only keeping myself busy will make thing better.

My good friends' wedding - part 3

Free hugs - Give me a hug

I read an article in newspapaer and come upon to this real life story. Check out this guy, Juan Mann's site, and below is what I quoted from that site:

How it all started:

I'd been living in London when my world turned upside down and I'd had to come home. By the time my plane landed back in Sydney, all I had left was a carry on bag full of clothes and a world of troubles. No one to welcome me back, no place to call home. I was a tourist in my hometown.

Standing there in the arrivals terminal, watching other passengers meeting their waiting friends and family, with open arms and smiling faces, hugging and laughing together, I wanted someone out there to be waiting for me. To be happy to see me. To smile at me. To hug me.

So I got some cardboard and a marker and made a sign. I found the busiest pedestrian intersection in the city and held that sign aloft, with the words "Free Hugs" on both sides.

And for 15 minutes, people just stared right through me. The first person who stopped, tapped me on the shoulder and told me how her dog had just died that morning. How that morning had been the one year anniversary of her only daughter dying in a car accident. How what she needed now, when she felt most alone in the world, was a hug. I got down on one knee, we put our arms around each other and when we parted, she was smiling.

Everyone has problems and for sure mine haven't compared. But to see someone who was once frowning, smile even for a moment, is worth it every time.

Why Did it get banned?

Public liability fear and red tape. But its all okay now! Make sure to check your local laws before embarking on your Hugathon!

I think in Asia culture, we all hard to give each other a hug. Actually, hugs really give you the feeling of warmth and welcome. Even sometime when you feeling down, a hug can give you a refreshing. I think most of the Malaysian still can't get used to the hug you give. I got a hug when I was in US. The feeling is a bit strange, however, if you break the barrier and try to accept the others hug, you will start to feel that it is different. It is a way to show that you really take care of others and concern about the others by giving a simple and priceless hug.

I give some hugs to my friends when I was back from US. They all were shocked, stunned, and a bit of rejection. May be the culture is different. However, I feel that hugging is a natural way to break the human disconnectivity that happen nowadays.

So, just give me a hug. My hug is free too!

Thai funny advertisement

Find that this advertisement is very creative. As compare to our country, I find that Thai's ad is really creative and related to their daily life. For the 1st advertisement, it show that how people feel very happy at the end of the week. As far as we know, Asian people work very hard during weekdays due to the competitive of the globalization. If you cannot perform well, they will still a lot of resources that can replace your duty. Hence, a holiday or weekend is well appreciated to all of us who under employed.

The second ad in this clip, it not surprise for me to be feel happy in finding a car park slot. Places like in big city of Asia, parking is a big issue. Whenever you go, you may waste 1-2 hours to get a parking. Hence, this ad really reflect the real life of Asian.

The third ad, to me, it show that sometime, some food is very expensive in Asia or can be consider as delicate food. Hence, getting extra "crab crawl" may be a very happy event. It is like in KL, in which you order for "wan tan" noodle, you only can get about 2-3 wantan dumplings, If you get 5 wantan dumpling, then, you should be very surprise and happy.

Another hilarious advertisement. It also reflect that for Asian, especially in development country, we may need to have several part time job in order to overcome the depletion of the economics and the the higher living cost.

Unlike our country Malaysia, those champaign for encourage people to exercise is like showing people running, jogging, or doing exercise in gym with the background music of "let do exercise together, or in Malay "Badan cergas, otak cerdas" in the national TV advertisement. In Thailand, their advertisement is such that bringing out the element of humor but still can bring out the idea or the champagne purposes in a very creative way. People who watch it will have an impression of this advertisement and unconsciously, they will know the important of exercise.

Salary Range - Jobstreet

During lunch, one of my colleagues, whose name resemble the branded name for men wear, said that he found a salary report on the jobstreet.

Seems so interesting, and search in the jobstreet. By checking the salary based on position and years of experience, feel that the salary we have in Malaysia, is still hard to catch up with the price of consumer/property in current days.

Those who stay in KL need to suffer the Tol fee. Portion of the salary has contributed to the toll, but yet still need to suffer the traffic jam and waste the consumption of the petrol. Property in Klang valley is high. Just imagine for a condo, is at least in 200K range, the landed property may above 300K for a nice location. If compare with the same working profile with me who is in 31-35 age range, the average salary is 3375. The property is like 5 to 8 fold of your annual salary.

If we using bank loan rule, in which you just can use 1/3 of your monthly salary for monthly installment, you can only afford to borrow loan for 185K, with 30 years of payment, at 6.15% fix rate. That's mean, the only property you can afford is condo. Landed property seems a further step or years of saving before can buy. However, they have maintenance fees for condo, renovation, furniture.., It seems like your average salary is not enough. Monthly payment to house, car, petrol, toll, cell phone... Does that enough to survive in Malaysia?

Due to that, I feel that living in Malaysia versus the salary you earn can't really tally with the cost of living in Malaysia.

Have they ever concern of others?

Driving back to Cheras today, after work. The traffic is so jam, and the attitude of the drivers, really shocking me. Everyone want to go back early, but do they ever think that we are all living in the community, not alone.

There was a lady driver suddenly turn to my driving lane without any signal and without checking the car behind her. I was driving in the left lane while right lane the cars were waiting the traffic light to turn green to turn right. Hence, I was driving at a normal speed. Suddenly, they was a women driver who drove the black car cut into my lane and I quickly press the break. "Eep ..." The friction sound between my tires and road can be clearly heard. She drove very fast, like thunder storm. Either she was a pro car racer or not, she still need to consider and think of others who on the road. She was not living alone. We are all living together.

Then, they was a stupid question came into my mind. Why do I always think of others in the road, even when I park. If my initial parking may obstruct the flow of traffic, I will go inside my car and redo my parking again. I want to make sure that my parking do not obstruct others.

However, when I finally drove back near to my house, I tremendously mad about the others that park the car on the road side. The road was 2 lane width. Why they still have to park the car near to the center of the road. Do they really concern about the others.

Because of the selfishness in our nation, the civic consciousness is low in Malaysia. We need to start to think, and ask ourself, what should we do in order for better living together, not for better convenience or living for ownself.

CNY is round the corner

Chinese New Year decoration in the Curve.

Beautiful decoration.

CNY is around the corner.

House Hunt

Searching for house in Klang valley. The more I search, the more I concern. Many factors are counting in my mind in purchasing the property. The main factors are budget, location, surrounding, workmanship and the trustable developer.

Too much to concern. Living in Malaysia need to be careful of every aspect. The most important thing is the workmanship and the completion of the housing development. See some website that have tons of complaints in Bandar Botanic and Sri Putramas. How can I trust the local developer in buying my dream house.

In US, houses are built in good quality. The workmanship in US is good. That is not worry or concern about the house in buying there. I think the different between in Western and Eastern country is, Western is much more concern about quality but in Eastern, all they concern is quantity and cycle time. How we can produce a good workmanship with just focusing in short time line and quantity?

Ausentes

Watched this movie in Kira channel, Astro. Astro is our nation satellite Tv station. Checked using online translator, Ausentes (spanish) means Absentees.

This is a psychological thriller Spanish movie. The main couple in this movie, Julia (Ariadna Gil) and Samuel (Jordi Mollà) together with the children were moving into an urban outskirts area. The new home, seems to be an ideal case, but Julia starts to feel strange about her new living environment. She started to feel isolated. In her world, it seems no one living in the new housing area. From this movie, the director shoot the scenes in what Julia see or experiences. Hence, I am a bit bizarre when there were no one in her living area except her husband or children. It start to clear to me when the movie ended. I like the way that the director know how to bring the audience into Julia's world.

Julia star to feel distressed in her new environment. She feel isolated and tension between she and her family start to come into the saturation point. She was depressed, and can't distinguish between the reality and imagination. The emotion start to burst when she fight against with her husband and children. She used the car to hit his husband who she thought was trying to kill her. She also took a knife and try to threaten her elder son in order to save her beloved younger son. At that moment, when she holding the knife, she suddenly hear many people whispering, but no one around her. Then suddenly the camera changed where actually she was surrounded by all her neighbourhood. At that moment, I finally understand that the director took the scene that look through Julia's world of perspective.

In the end of the movie, Julia elder son try to approach her. But in her world, her son also disappear. She was alone and isolated from everyone, inside her mind.

This is quite a nice movie to watch since it really draw my attention to watch.

Spanglish

Watched this movie, "Spanglish", in HBO today. I was some sort of knowing this movie through some article read up about this movie. To my honour, finally I can watch this movie today. This is a very a very nice movie, combination of drama and comedy. The story line is very attractive. This can be told by my two little nephews who sat in front of the TV for two hours without any distraction.
